Board of Trustees
Mike McCall (Chair of the Board)
is the principal owner and architect at M Squared Architects. He received his Associate in Architectural Drafting from the Denver Institute of Technology and his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Kansas in Lawrence. As a past technical student and a local architect in Salina he has a vast array of experience in what is needed in the continuing education sector for students in these fields. With this experience he can see how the experience and schooling can change a person’s outlook on life, he excited to take his knowledge and help serve on the board.

Brent Campbell
is a Chief Warrant Officer 5 in the Kansas Army National Guard and serves as the Command Chief Warrant Officer at the Joint Force Headquarters in Topeka. He graduated from Fort Hays State University in 2021 with a Bachelor of General Studies degree with an emphasis on leadership. He has worked closely with Salina Tech for years, helping the college develop its Synchronous Training and Credit program, allowing soldiers at the Regional Training Site to earn college credit for their military training in fields such as welding, machining, and air conditioning.

Serena Helvey
holds a role at the Salina Surgical Hospital in risk management, quality and corporate compliance. As a long time resident of Saline County she feels it is important to give back to the community. Serena graduated from Salina Area Technical College with a certificate in Drafting in 1984. She completed her Associate of Applied Science -Registered Nurse from Kansas Wesleyan University in 1993 and her Bachelor of Science in Business also from Kansas Wesleyan in 2004. With her experience and knowledge, she is eager to learn and serve on the board.

John Smith
is a graduate of Ell-Saline High School and Salina Tech. He also has degrees from Lamar Community College and Kansas Wesleyan University. He taught science and math at Ell-Saline High School and Sacred Heart High School before going into cattle ranching full time. He has employed many Salina Tech graduates over the years, and looks forward to helping guide Salina Tech’s future.

Mark Wentzel
is Mechanical Engineering Manager and shareholder at Wilson & Co. He is a graduate of Kansas State University with a degree in Architectural Engineering, and is a licensed professional engineer in Arizona, California, Kansas, Missouri, New Mexico and Utah. He is also a member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers and the U.S. Green Building Council LEED AP.

Cory Downing
Chief Operating Officer, Salina Vortex Corp. Downing brings a wealth of knowledge as a career industrial engineer and leader in manufacturing. Originally hailing from Ellinwood, KS., he earned an AS degree from Barton County Community College, BSME and MSIE in Engineering Management from Kansas State University. Cory views Salina Tech as a valuable resource for the community teaching skillsets that are in high demand. He plans to leverage his experience and knowledge in manufacturing as well as his experience in higher education to build and strengthen the college’s relationships within the region.
Tina Hill
Nurse Education Coordinator for Salina Regional Health Center. As a Nursing Informatics professional, she brings a unique blend of technological expertise and interpersonal skills. Hill holds an MSN from Western Governors University, BSN from Wright State University, and attended Baylor University majoring in pre-nursing. She believes that serving her community is not a passive objective. “I want to give back by helping shape the next generation with opportunities, knowledge, and growth.”
Dustin Pestinger
President, Pestinger Heating and Air Conditioning, Inc. A graduate of Sacred Heart High School, Dustin earned a BS from Fort Hays State University and then earned a certificate from Boulder College of Massage Therapy. He returned to Salina after a stint working in Colorado to help run the family business. Pestinger brings knowledge from within the trade community, knowledge of the community of Salina and the surrounding area, and out-side-the-box ideas from experience both in and out of the construction trades.
Slade Spratlen
A product of Ell-Saline High School and Salina Tech, Spratlen began his career as a welder at Great Plains Manufacturing. He advanced within the company to foreman and now serves as manufacturing recruiter for the company. With his knowledge and service to manufacturing programs within Kansas, he would like to see the growth continue as one of the best Technical facilities in the State. He is interested in seeing how the college can meet some of the challenges facing students, particularly in housing and dining.
